Quick Notes: Bastien’s real passion is baking bread….! Future focus on Coteaux Champenois style

Bastien is in his early 30s, but has already spent more than 10 years in the vineyards. He cultivates 1,4 hectares of vineyards in Chamery, Montagne de Reims, that he inherited from his parents. The vines have been cultivated organic since 2013 (Certified 2021). From 2014-2017 he produced sparkling champagne, but from the 2018 vintage he decided to fully focus on Coteaux Champenois by working with lowering yields, later harvesting and longer maturation.

Currently he only vinifies around 0,2 hectares himself, the rest he sells, to finance his other passion project –baking bread! Bastien is determined and has a clear vision and direction, the plan is to produce wines from around 0,4 hectares while at the same time also growing grains for his own artisanal bakery with wood fired oven.

When you meet Bastien there is a humbling aura around him. Patience is the key to everything. He has a lot of ideas and perspective but manages to explain them very precisely and with enigmatic energy. This aura you also feel in the wines, they’re not brash or wild, but rather thoughtful.

Throughout the coming years we’ll be receiving the last few vintages of sparkling champagne, alongside some of the coteaux releases, that in our opinion will become future reference points for where modern Coteaux Champenois will be heading.
