Quick note: Former Paris Sommelier now Jura restaurateur (Autour de l'Âtre). Léa makes a few barrels of ripe picked and zero-zero energetic wines!
Léa started her wine journey as a sommelier in Paris and after working for several years her friend Francois Rousse Martin recommended she relocate to Jura and make some wine! Léa promptly moved and became a baker and opened a restaurant with her then partner, ‘Autour de l'Âtre’ in Grus – which quickly became a well-known institution for hospitality in the region.
Concurrently Léa worked with Francois, and also has interned with other regional winemakers, Kenjiro Kagami amongst them. 2022 is her first released vintage, with grapes from around Grus and nearby, mainly from friends vineyards, and vinified in a free-spirited approach. We often say, vinified like old school Jura, ripe picking, not afraid of oxygen and longer elevage on lees and in barrel. No sulphur added. In a way Léa is super dogmatic in her approach to ‘hands off’ or ‘free’ winemaking – letting the wine speak for itself.
Léa is pushing the limits by focusing on ripe grapes – on her labels you will even see her write 100% beaux raison (mature grapes!). The energy in her wines are unmistakable and they’re demanding of focus and admiration.
