It’s no secret we drink our fair share of bubbles here, and we love Champagne and the region, but of course it always ends up costing slightly more than the usual bottle of wine. We had looked over the years for a Champagne that had all the qualities we adore and yet also was a reasonable price point to be able to drink it daily (in our dreams!). We were lucky enough to be connected to Charlotte, the third generation of the Lagache family to make wine from the family estate. In 2019 Charlotte was brought onboard to work alongside her father Claude, to manage the 12 hectares over 10 different sites, such as Chouilly, Épernay, Pierry, Chavot, and others.
We have only the one, extremely delicious and popular cuvée, Cuvée Carl. A rather odd name for a French wine perhaps, and it is due to the wonderful collaboration we made with our friend and Christianshavn neighbour, Carl Quist-Møller! Carl and his father Fleming have made their names as celebrated children’s illustrators, drawing and creating for books, tv series and comics. Carl had never illustrated for a wine label before, and he immediately came to us with the now iconic label of the champagne girl!
Of course, the wine within has to be excellent too, Charlotte is working organically in the vineyards, and the Cuvée Carl is made with a base wine from 2018, and approximately equal parts Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier. We have been so happy working together with Charlotte, and have often asked for larger formats, a magnum or jeroboam Champagne is always an amazing addition to any party!
