Located in the Chenin and Cab Franc capital of France; Loire, Isabelle Suire is a 4th generation winemaker, inheriting vineyards from her grandparents, and having now 17 hectares of both Chenin and Cabernet Franc.
Wanting to certify her organic viticulture, Isabelle has employed biodynamic and organic consultant Michel Chevré (ex-vineyard manager for Thierry Germain and vigneron at Clos de L’Ecotard) to help transition into certification - expected to be completed in 2026. This desire came about after meeting the president of Saumur red wine association and biodynamic worker Romain Guiberteau (Isabelle herself is president of Saumur’s white wine association!) She also has worked vintages at biodynamic domaines Château de la Tour Grise and Domaine de la Garrelière which further influenced her direction.
Cellar work is focused on hand harvest, pneumatic press, cold settling, overall stainless steel use for both whites and reds, approx one week maceration for reds, lightly filtered, so totally dependent on vintage, but normally between 20-50ppm free SO2 at bottling.
An absolutely incredible point is the immense history Isabelle’s cellar inhabits! The iconic cliffs and caves of the Loire Valley have been home to some of the original European human inhabitants, called Troglodytes. Standing in her barrel room, with the ceiling naturally sloping towards a blackened fireplace hole in the middle, reminds one of the centuries past and the generations of humans who once called this region home.
We were introduced to Isabelle's wines last year and we were so impressed with the freshness, elegance and delicacy that her wines produce, and at such an attractive price point. Really glad to represent these wines in Denmark and follow her journey.
